Michigan State University Extension Presents Adulting 101

Are you ready to leave for college or be out on your own? Are you prepared to do adult tasks and have skills to be successful? Michigan State University Extension's Adulting 101 programs help teenagers and young adults demystify the obscure reality of being an “adult” through engaging educational sessions. Each FREE session is packed full of important life skills and tools necessary to live independently!

The Psychology of Spending and Saving - Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.
  • Reflect on your personal financial journey, your emotional connection to money and gain budgeting resources to help you along the way.
Fostering Happy and Healthy Relationships - Monday, February 12 at 5 p.m. ET
  • Explore healthy relationship models that can enhance your future and current bonds. Tips on setting boundaries, managing conflict, navigating breakups, and practicing consent will be shared by a licensed professional counselor.
Keeping Your Money Safe - Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m. ET
  • How are you keeping your money safe? Gain insights on researching and evaluating financial institutions (banks and credit unions) to make the best choice for your financial future.
Cover Letter and Resume Writing - Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. ET
  • Create or improve your resume and cover letter with these tips and tricks.
Build and Protect Your Credit - Wednesday, May 15 at 5 p.m. ET
  • Learn why your credit matters, how to start obtaining credit and how to manage it.
Traveling on a Budget - Thursday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. ET
  • Anticipating future travel plans? Tap into strategies for traveling on a budget to ensure you reach your next destination.
Cooking Basics - Tuesday, July 16 at 4 p.m. ET
  • Learn the language of cooking, how to read recipes and how to be creatively resourceful in the kitchen in this interactive session.
Summer Berries: Jam and Jelly - Monday, August 12 at 4 p.m. ET
  • Enjoy the taste of summer while having fun making jams and jellies using fresh summer fruits.
Changing the World with Your One Vote - Monday, September 16 at 5 p.m. ET
  • There are lots of names on a ballot, but how do you decide which box to check? Learn about how to register, and how to select your candidates.
The Ins and Outs of Paying for Post-Secondary Education - Wednesday, October 16 at 5 p.m. ET
  • Learn about student loans, facing the FAFSA and tuition free options.
Cracking the Code to College - Tuesday, November 19 at 5 p.m. ET
  • Explore the admission and application process and get tips on writing your essay.


All sessions will take place on Zoom and will last approximately an hour. Your registration receipt will contain the zoom information. Please do not share as space is limited.
