Public Safety Update
Forecast guidance from the National Weather Service indicates a mix of heavy snow and freezing rain, with potential for significant icing across parts of northern Lower Michigan. Current forecasts suggest the heaviest icing may occur from the Grand Traverse Bay area east toward northeast Michigan, which could lead to tree damage and power outages.
Utility companies have already mobilized mutual aid crews, including out-of-area line workers staged in the region to respond if outages occur. Grand Traverse County is also preparing to activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate resources with local governments, road commissions, and utility providers if widespread impacts develop.
Residents are encouraged to take a few preparedness steps today:
• Charge phones and backup batteries
• Keep flashlights readily available
• Prepare for possible power outages
• Monitor trusted weather sources for updates
Family members, friends, and neighbors are also encouraged to check on loved ones during the storm, especially elders and those who may need assistance.
